If you’re struggling to pay your ongoing rent and arrears, we may be able to help you through our Hardship Scheme.

The Hardship Scheme supports our customers to sustain their tenancies and get their finances back on track. Last year, our team helped 649 families through the scheme.

The Scheme can't help with payment for other essential bills, household needs or priority debts. If you’re struggling and need further support in these areas, please contact our Central Debt Team.

Each Hardship Scheme application will be assessed individually and for your application to be considered you will need to provide:

  • proof of all household income;
  • proof of all other debts not owed to WDH; and
  • proof of savings.

You can show this evidence by providing bank statements clearly displaying payments made, for example your wages, Child Benefit payments and / or outgoing payments to debtors. If your application is approved, your account will be credited with the amount awarded as a lump sum payment to the rent account.

For more information about the Hardship Scheme or to apply, please contact the Central Debt Team on 01977 724464 or email [email protected]

What our customers say:

“The WDH Hardship Scheme helped me clear my rent arrears. Not having any arrears in rent meant that I could apply for a WDH Foundation Grant and train as a plant operator. I have gained all my qualifications and am now working in a more stable job.
“Without the help of the WDH Hardship Scheme I have no idea where I would be today. It has totally changed the lives of our family, and I can’t thank WDH enough. I would never have been able to afford the money to clear my arrears and make a career change without their help.”
