Anna was renting privately in Hull but wasn’t allowed to have a dog and her landlord also increased the rent, so it became unaffordable for Anna to stay there. She was ready for a change.
Anna started to look into shared ownership and decided that Deira Park, a new development in Beverley, was perfect for her family.
Anna said: “I’ve always wanted to live in Beverley and the development is nice and quiet. As a single mum, it didn’t seem possible that I could buy a home outright in this area. I spoke to my older brother about trying shared ownership and he said to go for it. It seemed like the best next step for my family.”
Shared ownership is a national scheme that allows you to buy a share of your home and pay affordable rent on the rest. This means a smaller deposit, smaller mortgage repayments and the flexibility to increase your shares whenever you're ready.
Anna added: “The process was smooth from start to finish and I was guided through everything, even with the mortgage application. I’ve already recommended shared ownership to my friends and if you’re thinking about it, I would say do it. I pay a similar amount to when I was renting, but with shared ownership I have some equity and the freedom to make my home my own.”
Now that her family has settled into their new home, Anna is looking to the future. She said: “I feel like I've become a different person since moving and I absolutely love it here. It has been great for us and now we can look into adding a puppy to our family.”
