Keeping people safe is everyone’s responsibility and so we’re pleased to be supporting National Safeguarding Adults Week.
Safeguarding is the act of protecting people from abuse, neglect, and harm and ensuring they are healthy and well. In our communities, everyone has a role to play to make that happen.
Safeguarding applies to all adults, young people and children who may be at risk. All teams in WDH have a role to play in safeguarding and we take our responsibility seriously.
In the past year we've helped give confidence back to victims of cuckooing, supporting them to claim back their homes and feel secure in their communities again. Our Community Safety Team has supported victims of domestic abuse, taking swift action to secure their homes and giving them peace of mind and stability.
Our Debt Team has undertaken new training to support customers suffering with suicidal thoughts, signposting and giving them the tools to find help and get their finances back on track. We also continue to work with West Yorkshire Police and other partners to improve the safety of our communities through proactive information sharing.
But safeguarding in our communities is not just about us. We need everyone’s help to make sure that we create safe and secure places to live.
Safeguarding is about recognising the signs that something is not right, looking out for the interests of vulnerable people and reporting concerns when we have them.
