WDH independent living resident Andrew Gough is set to take on a gruelling challenge with his family in memory of rugby league legend, Rob Burrow.
Andrew and his son Matt are in training for the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May. Their team of family and friends, calling themselves ‘Clan Gough’, have already tackled Kevin Sinfield’s 7 in 7 challenge in December 2024.
Now the group are set to face their first ever marathon and they’ll be pushing Andrew on the 26.3 mile course. Andrew was diagnosed with Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS), a rare form of Motor Neurone Disease (MND), last year.
Rob Burrow raised millions in support of the MND community following his own diagnosis in 2019. Rob and teammate Kevin Sinfield caught the attention of the entire country when they crossed the finish line of the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in 2023.
Inspired by the pair, Clan Gough will be guiding Andrew around the course in a specially adapted wheelchair, and will be raising money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. In memory of Rob Burrow’s iconic shirt number, 7, the team have set an ambitious fundraising target of £7,777. Good luck, Clan Gough!

Our Independent Living schemes are perfect for anyone that needs a bit more help at home, or support with their everyday living, but isn’t ready to live in a retirement home or residential care home. Our properties help to support an independent lifestyle, meaning residents have their own door key and can come and go as they please, while still living within a larger secure scheme, or a self-contained bungalow, that offers them safety and peace of mind.
There are no age restrictions for our independent living schemes. Find out more today!
