What are Independent Living Schemes like?

A description of Independent Living Schemes

Independent Living Schemes are a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments and bungalows, suitable for older or vulnerable people.

Some schemes are integral buildings, which means that all apartments and communal facilities are under one roof.  Others are bungalows with a community centre, where social events are held.  Some schemes have an integral building and external bungalows and ground floor apartments that also have use of the communal facilities.

Each scheme has differing social events depending on what the residents of the scheme want to happen there.

Some of the most popular events include:

  • coffee mornings;
  • bingo; and
  • day trips to seaside towns or tourist attractions.
