Youngsters clean up Minsthorpe area

Young people from South Elmsall took part in an hour-long litter pick last week as part of an event organised by WDH and West Yorkshire Police Schools’ Officer PC Simon Newton.

The tidy up, which took place in the Minsthorpe area, was followed by lunch courtesy of the Minsthorpe Estate Tenants Association and entertainment including sports activities and glitter tattoos at the Minsthorpe Sports Centre. Wakefield Council were also on hand to take away rubbish collected on the day.

Jane Gwilliam, Tenant Involvement Officer, said: “The event was really well attended and we were able to pick up lots of bin bags full of rubbish. When we organise litter picks it’s great because we don’t just sort out a problem in an area, we teach young people from  the community the importance of looking after where they live.”
