Working with Young People 2015: Kettlethorpe Guardians Boxing Club

Published 8 October 2015

Mark Roberts and Kettlethorpe Guardians Boxing Club took the award in our working with young people category in WDH’s 2015 Love Where You Live Awards.

Kettlethorpe Guardians Boxing Club and its creator Mark Roberts have dedicated four evenings a week on a voluntary basis to engage with young people in Kettlethorpe who previously felt disengaged. The club have not only taught them how to box but also have taught them discipline and self-respect.

They have male and female members, and are very keen to strengthen the club’s community bonds and promote inclusion.

The club raised over £15,000 in order to ensure the service is accessible for all members and can continue to run and help boost local young people’s confidence.

On winning the award, Mark said: “We are highly delighted to win and would like to thank everyone for their support. Kettlethorpe Guardians Boxing Club welcomes everyone and we hope to use the £500 funding to continue to be able to work with more local residents than ever before.”
