Working with Older People 2016: Ann Bond

Published 2 November 2016

Ann Bond won the Working With Older People category in WDH’s 2016 Love Where You Live Awards.

Ann Bond has been running The Bereavement Group in South Kirkby for 14 years. The group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one and has over 80 members. They have weekly meetings to decide what outings or activities to arrange and meet socially to have a meal and play bingo.

The group aims to support people who have lost a loved one and help them to regain their confidence and learn how to live happily again. Not only do they have regular local events, they also plan an annual cruise and other short breaks for members. The group gives its members a purpose and helps to reduce social isolation that can often be caused by the death of a partner or friend.

On winning the award, Ann said: “I’m absolutely gob smacked! I don’t feel like I do anything special so to deserve an award but it feels fantastic. It makes all the hard work worthwhile, I really didn’t expect to win!”
