Stay home and support your communities

Published 15 October 2020

This week the Government announced that additional local restrictions will be applied to Wakefield and the West Yorkshire area from Wednesday, 14 October 2020. This means we are now in Local Alert Level 2 (High Alert) on the three tier scale.

This fills me with both disappointment and relief. Whilst I am disappointed that further restrictions are needed, I am also pleased that, in the majority of cases,  the businesses that keep our communities and economy moving are still able to operate, if a little differently.

We are still able to go outside and see family and friends and, as a landlord, we are able to continue to enter your homes to keep them safe and secure, particularly as we enter the winter months. This virus is a serious risk to public health and we must pull together to keep each other safe wherever we can.

As we move into the winter period I would encourage you all to look out for your neighbours and do what you can to lift each others spirits where people may be struggling.

This year I am pleased to invite you all to celebrate the achievements of our Love Where You Live contestants, the people who go over and above all year round to make our communities great places to live.

We will be hosting a very special online event through Facebook from 6 pm on Tuesday, 20 October 2020 where our winners will be announced and I would encourage you all to stay home, log on and join us to support your community heroes. This year’s competition has been the biggest yet with other 18,600 votes cast! Don’t miss it.

And finally, thank you to all of you who expressed your interest in joining our Board. We were inundated with applications and we will be contacting all of those who got in touch shortly with more information.

Thank you.

Andy Wallhead, Chief Executive.
