Pontefract Decoration Squad’s creative efforts celebrated

Pontefract Decoration Squad were crowned our Arts and Culture winners at our 10th Love Where You Live Awards grand final held at Pontefract Racecourse.

Pontefract Decoration Squad started as a group to help decorate Pontefract for the Tour de Yorkshire. Since then, they have created designs from painting waste drink bottles to create stunning displays using wire and netting around Pontefract for Remembrance Sunday, Yorkshire Day, VE Day and the Liquorice Festivals.

Carol Trueman, from Pontefract Decoration Squad, said: “As a group we were amazed and delighted to win the trophy. I think we’re all still in shock and are planning bigger and better projects for next year! As for the prize money, we haven’t discussed it as a group but it will be spent on resources for future displays. Next year’s will include a Jubilee display, it’s going to be big! Thank you again for a wonderful evening. It was a pleasure hearing about other groups.”

Look out for their future displays on the Pontefract Civic Society Facebook page here.
