After narrowly missing out on first place in this category last year, Incredible Edible gave it another shot in 2020. This year they were crowned our Digital in the Community winners, in our first ever digital Love Where You Live Awards.
They used their social media to promote health and wellbeing activities and help to reduce social isolation by encouraging people to get involved with gardening projects. During lockdown they gave away over 2,500 small packets of seeds to promote their ‘stay home and grow your own’ initiative and showed a number of tutorials on Facebook to help people who wanted to try growing their own fruit and veg.
Andy, from Incredible Edible, said: “Incredible Edible Wakefield was happy to be able to support people self isolating during lockdown by using social media to send out windowsill, salad and allotment seeds to help people #StayHomeandGrowYourOwn and receiving a WDH Love Where You Live award in recognition of the initiative is just the cherry on the cake. We’ll be using the prize money to buy gardening tools for some of our edible gardening clubs across the district.”
