WDH raises funds for Hospice
2 May 2019
Published
2 May 2019
WDH has raised an impressive £1,605 for Wakefield Hospice as part of the Hospice’s annual 10k Road Race Corporate Challenge. A team of 28 employees took on the challenge, organised by the charity to raise much needed funds to help provide palliative and end of life care to patients. Jamie Strachan, Events Fundraiser and organiser of the 10k race said: “For us the Wakefield 10k is our biggest event and the Corporate Challenge is a great way for businesses across the district to get involved. We are committed to inclusivity, hence why we have a funding target rather than a race time target. We began the Corporate Challenge back in 2017 and we have raised £35,000 so far.” He added: “75% of funding has to come from the public and year in and year out, people from Wakefield come out to support us. While we can’t add days to life, we can add life to days, providing a home from home experience and every little contribution matters. This contribution from WDH will help tremendously.” Joanne Biltcliffe, OneCALL Manager at WDH led the group and said: “We’re thrilled we have managed to exceed our £1,000 target. The 10k Road Race is a great way of getting employees fit and active and at the same time giving something back by providing much needed funds to the Hospice.”

Pontefract residents get creative for Easter
24 April 2019
Published
24 April 2019
Last week, residents of a WDH independent living scheme enjoyed an Easter themed coffee morning. They got creative putting together Easter cards, Easter bonnets and Easter bags. One resident said: “I made my two daughters an Easter card each. It’s not something that I would usually do but it would have been a shame to pass on this opportunity.” Claire Secker, Tenant Involvement Officer, said: “It’s nice to see the residents come together and help one another. We urge everyone to get involved in any events that are held and it’s nice to see so many people enjoying themselves.”
