Gas Safety Week: Fighting for a Gas Safe Nation

Published 13 September 2021

Today marks the beginning of Gas Safety Week, taking place between 13 and 19 September 2021.

Gas Safety Week is an annual safety campaign to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of gas appliances. It is coordinated by the Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

At WDH, we are legally responsible for the safety of our tenants and always ensure our gas engineers are on the Gas Safe Register. As your landlord, we also insist that all properties and gas appliances are serviced every 12 months, to help keep you and your family safe in your home.

If appliances aren’t regularly serviced, there is a risk of gas leaks, fires, explosions, and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly with no warning, as you cannot see it, taste it or smell it.

You can help keep your home and neighbourhood safe

To help us make sure your home and appliances are gas safe, please allow us access to your home to carry out maintenance and safety checks on gas appliances. This is stated in your tenancy agreement.

If you aren’t at home on your gas servicing appointment date, call 0800 731 7347 or email gasservicing@wdh.co.uk to rearrange.

What to do if you smell gas

If you think you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency number – 0800 111 999 immediately and take the following action:

  • Turn the gas off at the meter.
  • Open all doors and windows.
  • Do not use electrical switches.
