We have supported the Wild about Wakefield project run by Open Country, with a Community Grant of over £ 1,400.

A group of residents in Pontefract and Knottingley have recently graduated from their arts and crafts course with support from WDH.

Residents at Musgrave Court were visited by Utilita recently to help them make the most of their smart meters. Following the refurbishment of the independent living scheme in Wakefield, all of the flats now come equipped with smart meters to help residents to keep a track of their energy usage.

WDH are working in partnership with the Strategic Team Group to build 40 new homes in Thirsk.

Children from Simpson’s Lane Academy in Knottingley celebrated finishing their SATs with a day in the park. Though they weren’t sitting back and relaxing just yet. They were picking up litter to improve the park, collecting 16 sacks all together, and adding planters to brighten up the area. They also did a street audit on the surrounding streets to highlight where improvements could be made.

As part of Deaf Awareness Week 6 to 12 May, Wakefield and District Society for Deaf People visited a number of venues within the Wakefield district to ensure they are offering services suitable for someone that is deaf or hard of hearing. Our Wakefield Hub was one of those visited.

WDH has raised an impressive £1,605 for Wakefield Hospice as part of the Hospice’s annual 10k Road Race Corporate Challenge. A team of 28 employees took on the challenge, organised by the charity to raise much needed funds to help provide palliative and end of life care to patients. Jamie Strachan, Events Fundraiser and organiser of the 10k race said: “For us the Wakefield 10k is our biggest event and the Corporate Challenge is a great way for businesses across the district to get involved. We are committed to inclusivity, hence why we have a funding target rather than a race time target. We began the Corporate Challenge back in 2017 and we have raised £35,000 so far.” He added: “75% of funding has to come from the public and year in and year out, people from Wakefield come out to support us. While we can’t add days to life, we can add life to days, providing a home from home experience and every little contribution matters. This contribution from WDH will help tremendously.” Joanne Biltcliffe, OneCALL Manager at WDH led the group and said: “We’re thrilled we have managed to exceed our £1,000 target. The 10k Road Race is a great way of getting employees fit and active and at the same time giving something back by providing much needed funds to the Hospice.”
