Published 10 October 2018

Friends of Fryston Woods Group took the Digital in the Community Award in WDH’s 2018 Love Where You Live Awards.

Friends of Fryston Woods have embraced Facebook in order to promote their activities and reach the community they work in. They now have almost 800 followers on their page and this year they have also created an Instagram page and are slowly building up followers. The group has used social media to promote the honey they are selling for a second year and used a local business, Bake my Day, who also use social media successfully to help sell this. The used their business initiative to engage with a local influencer on Instagram and his promotion of the honey on his Instagram account allowed them to sell their full supply of honey. The group also run a Fryston Memories Facebook page to promote the heritage of the Fryston community and engage with local people in the area.

On winning the award Steve Wright said, “We would like to thank every single person who has helped us on our journey whether that be volunteering, attending events, purchasing our honey, or supporting us in other ways. Also, a massive thank you to everyone who voted for us too, winning this award gives us the motivation to keep going and growing. The LWYL Awards is a fantastic way of bringing hardworking community groups and people together to showcase what we can achieve together. We were all winners on the night."
