Pontefract neighbourhood to benefit from multi million pound investment

WDH is investing four million pounds into improving 113 homes on Cromwell Crescent in Pontefract as part of the social housing provider’s wider £150 million investment in their homes over the next three years. The homes have already benefitted from external works in 2018, including new roofs and repointing to help improve their energy efficiency and will now undergo environmental works to further improve the appearance of the local area.

On 30 November 2021, 13 students and staff from Halfpenny Lane School in Pontefract took part in a litter pick and environmental audit on The Avenues, Pontefract with WDH. The students are looking at recycling, rubbish, and the impact on the environment as part of a wider school project.

A wonderful Christmastime at Eastbourne ILS

The choir from DeLacy Primary School visited residents at Eastbourne Bungalows Independent Living Scheme (ILS) on Thursday, 2 December to spread some Christmas cheer. Everyone was in the festive spirit as they enjoyed some games and refreshments, whilst the choir entertained with a few popular Christmas songs.

Pontefract Decoration Squad’s creative efforts celebrated

Pontefract Decoration Squad were crowned our Arts and Culture winners at our 10th Love Where You Live Awards grand final held at Pontefract Racecourse. Pontefract Decoration Squad started as a group to help decorate Pontefract for the Tour de Yorkshire. Since then, they have created designs from painting waste drink bottles to create stunning displays using wire and netting around Pontefract for Remembrance Sunday, Yorkshire Day, VE Day and the Liquorice Festivals.

Alba Stogden – a little girl on a mission

Seven year old Alba was crowned our 2021 Young Achiever at this year’s Love Where You Live Awards. Alba tackled her lockdown anxiety by going out on litter picks each day around Pontefract with her mum. She is a little girl on a mission to make the world a cleaner, safer and happier place. This year, Alba has walked hundreds of miles and helped to raise thousands of pounds for mental health charities and is now on with her next challenge to walk one million steps for the Yorkshire-based charity IDAS that supports people affected by domestic abuse and sexual violence.

Former Pontefract fire station site set to be transformed into apartments in plans submitted to Wakefield Council
