WDH apprentices give Hemsworth students careers advice

Published 10 February 2016

Two WDH apprentices recently visited a group of Year 11 students in Hemsworth to help promote the start of our 2016 apprenticeship scheme.

Curtis Jones, an Apprentice Electrician, and Kieran Tighe, an Apprentice Plumber, discussed their roles with pupils at Hemsworth Arts and Community Academy who are thinking about their options for when they finish school this summer. Both talked about their experiences in the scheme so far and offered advice about the application process, particularly around how to make themselves stand out.

Curtis and Kieran answered a range of questions about the scheme and gave information about different trades, explaining how apprenticeships differ from going to college.

Faye Pass, WDH’s Apprentice Review Officer, said: “It’s really encouraging that apprentices like Curtis and Kieran are so enthusiastic about the scheme. That they now have the confidence to come and discuss their work with young people thinking about a career in construction shows just how much they are benefitting from working with us as an apprentice.”

The closing date for applications is 29 March 2016.
