We are looking for someone to undertake domestic duties within one of our independent living schemes.

Reporting to the Scheme Manager, you will assist in meeting the social, physical and domestic needs of the tenants. This will include cleaning in non-residential areas, assisting the tenants to carry out domestic tasks within their flats on a needs led basis and providing them with social contact and emotional support.

Applicants will have:

  • good time management and organisational skills;
  • experience of cleaning large areas;
  • an understanding of the concept of customer care;
  • awareness of health and safety procedures; and
  • a willingness to undertake any necessary training.

Day in the life of a Domestic Assistant

I spend my days at my Extra Care Independent Living Scheme ensuring communal areas are clean and tidy, and supporting residents in their own homes to complete domestic tasks on a need led basis. This can include cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, vacuuming, making beds, taking out household waste and helping with personal laundry. I am always well presented wearing my WDH uniform, and helpful and friendly to residents and visitors I meet as part of my role. I pass any queries from residents onto the Scheme Manager so that they can support them further. I understand the importance of resident confidentiality and ensure this is maintained at all times.

Health and Safety is also a big part of my role and I follow the legislation on this and make sure that I use the correct equipment in terms of detergents, colour coded equipment and by wearing appropriate PPE in order to keep myself and others safe and for the business to be compliant. I look out for any potential hazards around the scheme and in residents homes and report these and any repair issues or queries to the Scheme Manager in order to keep the appearance of our schemes looking their best but also making sure they are safe for residents.

As part of my role as a Domestic Assistant, I have regular Management Support Meetings with the Scheme Manager at the scheme. This is a chance for me to sit down and discuss my performance and for me to ask for any support or equipment I may need to carry out my job.
