Residents of Carr Lane estate in South Kirkby enjoyed two celebratory events to mark the completion of improvement works in the area. Activities included a cream tea afternoon and a day planting flowers and playing family games on one of the estate’s newly modernised green spaces.
The improvement project, which was organised by WDH and completed by Groundwork Wakefield, includes freshly tarmacked roads, new sculptured artwork, screening for bin stores, fencing and decorative block paving. Improvements began on the estate three years ago with the work being broken down into two phases. Work to Armytage Walk brings the improvement scheme to an end.
Jane Gwilliam, WDH Tenant Involvement Officer, said: “Before work got underway we consulted with local people about our plans because we wanted them to tell us what they thought would and wouldn’t work. After taking comments into consideration everyone’s been really supportive and it’s great for our tenants that all the upgrades have now been completed.”
Local resident Nichola Tighe, 33, attended the celebration event. She said: “The area looks much better now – it’s great.”
