We are looking for someone to join our Assets Team as a Principal Designer. In this role you will ensure the provision of a comprehensive and professional principal design service as required by Construction (Design and Management) Regulations and associated Approved Code of Practice (ACOP).

In this role you will liaise with principal contractors and share information that may affect the planning, monitoring and co-ordination of the construction phase and also regarding on-going design.

You will work with any other designers on the project to eliminate foreseeable health and safety risks to anyone affected by the work, and, where that is not possible, take steps to reduce or control those risks.

Applicants will have:

  • a NEBOSH Construction Site Safety qualification or equivalent and current CITB CSCS card;
  • substantial experience of all stages of the design and construction of a wide range of building types, including large complex buildings;
  • experience in carrying out duties of Principal Designer;
  • the ability to analyse and interpret drawings, specifications and method statements;
  • the ability to communicate effectively with client representatives and members of design teams, contractors and sub-contractors, with a view to these parties fully incorporating the implication of the CDM regulations into their work, and
  • the ability to interpret and apply Health and Safety legislation in order to provide practical solutions.

The role requires you to have a valid UK driving licence and daily access to a vehicle as travel throughout the district and other locations is required.
